We'll wrap up our examination of personal and internet computer security this week, with a concentration preventative measures and clean-up tools and methods. We'll also discuss biometrics and backups.

Resources used this week - If you're unfamiliar with any tool, please don't use it until after we've discussed it in class. And as always - Discuss with your parents prior to installation!

ASSIGNMENT 1O - Change your Google Apps password to a Strong Password of your own choosing:
  1. Log into Google Apps
  2. Choose Settings (upper right)
  3. Accounts
  4. Google Account Settings
  5. Change Password
  6. Enter your current password
  7. Choose a new, stronger password; re-enter password
  8. Click Change Password to complete
NOTE: You will receive a grade based on the strength of your password.

Assignments #8 & #9

Complete the following assignments in-class Thursday and Friday. If not completed in class, do at home. Both must be completed no later than Sunday evening, 6 p.m.

I will be unavailable to respond to any "question" e-mails until Friday evening.

Assignment 8

Create (3) different Paint pictures suitable for use on BecometheBest - see right sidebar under "Sapere Aude" for examples.
  • Size is 226px by 226px
  • One graphic: Badin-themed
  • One graphic: Spring-themed (the season, not the bouncy thing)
  • One graphic: With "inspirational" quote

All pictures should be appropriately illustrated, pleasing to the eye, and demonstrate the use of multiple tools from the toolbox.

Name your files with your last name and numbered 1-2-3 (e.g. Gretz1, Gretz2, Gretz3) and save on your server drives.

E-mail all 3 at the same time, as attachments, to complete this assignment.

IMPORTANT! - Save all files as JPEG type
(under file name in Save dialog box )

Assignment 9

You'll need headphones for this - Browse to this page and watch the first 14 of 15 slides in the presentation (use right/left arrows to move through presentation).

You may also find the links on this page helpful.

Please keep in mind when creating events that ANY member of the Badin community can access your calendar. Don't post actual dates/times if you don't want them known. 
 
Now, create your personal calendar in Google Apps. Enter at least 15 different events (include descriptions for all) for your calendar (Birthdays, Special Events, Projects due, etc). If there are specific times for events, please use them; otherwise make the event "all day".

Requirements:
  • At least 3 events in March
  • At least 4 additional events in April
  • At least 4 additional events before end of school year.
  • At least 4 additional events before end of 2010
  • Create and set "reminders" for at least two events in March or April.
  • Change default view to MONTH
  • REPEATING events counts as ONE!
  
You DO NOT have to do anything to submit this assignment to me; just complete it!

    Assignment #7

    Browse to this document. You will need to log into your Google Apps account for access.

    Due date is now Wednesday, 6 p.m.

     

    Assignment #6 - Headers, Footers, and Tabs

    1) Create a header in a new document.
    -- On the first line of the header, enter your name left-aligned AND the date right-aligned.
    -- On the second line, enter your class period left-aligned AND the file name right-aligned.

    2) Create a footer with the page number AND number of pages, center-aligned.

    3) Open this file and then duplicate in the body of your document.

    4) Add a new page to your document.

    5) On the second page, create a list of at least 10 of this week's vocabulary words. Separate each word being defined and its definition with a tab and dashed fill characters for at least one inch.
    (Example: MYWORD---------------My definition)

    6) E-mail your finished document to me and submit a printed copy.

    Due Friday, March 5.

      Assignment #4 - Lists

      REVISED (AGAIN) - New due date

      Tell me how to do something, something that you personally are proud to do well. Assume I know absolutely nothing about the activity you are describing.

      1) Begin with a Unordered List of required items for this activity/process. These can be any items you choose, as long as there is a common relationship to the items.

      2) Using the Ordered List format, describe the steps of your process/activity (at least 8 steps!) Use complete sentences for all steps.

      3) Format bullet as something other than a "dot".

      Your lists should be appropriately titled, and contain all regularly required information. Originality in content will be richly rewarded.

      4) Add a new page to your document.
      5) Copy the Ordered List to the new page.

      6) Rearrange (Move) the items in your copied/page 2 list so they are in reverse order.
      7) Add a new page to your document.
      8) Copy the first 5 paragraphs of the instructions for this assignment to the top of your third page.

      9) Format the first paragraph with a 2-inch left indent.

      10) Format the second paragraph with a 2.5-inch right indent.

      11) Format the third paragraph with a 1.5-inch double indent.

      12) Format the fourth paragraph with a 1-inch hanging indent.

      13) Format the fifth paragraph with a .5-inch first-line indent.
      14) Save your file.

      Due Wednesday, February 17. Submit: printed report AND a copy of your file e-mailed to me as an attachment, using your Badin account.

      Assignment #3 - Email Etiquette

      Open your Badin e-mail account, where you'll find a message on the subject of e-mail etiquette. Read the contents, and then visit this link and read about each of the additional rules listed there.

      NOW, send me an e-mail using your Badin account and tell me:
      A) why proper etiquette should always be followed when sending e-mails,
      B) list the five rules you feel are the most important to follow, and
      C) tell me why for each.

      Your own words, folks - I don't want an easy cut-and-paste job!

      Assignment #2 - Current Event Report

      Read this article and this article and comment. Minimum 3 paragraphs. USE YOUR OWN WORDS - you may quote no more than 2 sentences. Italicize any quoted material.

      Format document:
      1. Use a sans serif font for entire document, except where otherwise specified.
      2. Font size for the entire document - 14 points
      3. At least one instance where you format each of these:
      • Double-underlining
      • Strike-through
      • Small Capitals
      • Font Color
      • Highlighting
      • Superscript or Subscript
      • Character Spacing 
      1. Include a hyperlink back to the source article somewhere in your document.
      2. Remember to include all information required for any assignment you submit. Format all three of those lines as bold AND use a serif font.
      3. Using your Badin e-mail ONLY, send your finished document as an attachment.
      This assignment is due no later than Friday, February 5.

      Extra Credit - ask a parent to read one or both of the same articles and then YOU should add his/her impressions at the end of your document, on a separate page.
